Instructor / Staff Info
Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Karate as well as other martial art disciplines and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them not only as teachers but also as mentors in the community. Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our instructor lineup has achieved excellence in the martial arts world and we now enjoy sharing our skills and passing it on to the next generation of authentic martial artists.
Eric J. Schultsmeier
Mr. Schultsmeier began his training in American Kenpo Karate in 1994 at the age of 4. He received his junior black belt in 1999; his 1st degree black belt in 2007; and his 3rd degree black belt in 2012. Having received his training from several well respected instructors in Kenpo Karate, his quality experience and intellectual instructing ability have gained him due recognition within the Idaho Kenpo Karate Association and Kenpo Karate community. His role in TORQUE is a representation of the collective knowledge he has gained throughout his many years training in Kenpo Karate. His emphasis on quality of form and style, combined with the value that this extends to quality of character brings the best out of students and provides a superior style of instruction. Having started his training at such a young age, Mr. Schultsmeier is the only Kenpo instructor in Whatcom County to have successfully advanced in rank as a child, teen, and finally an adult. This provides Mr. Schultsmeier with the rare and unique ability to train students of all ages due to his unique insight and having effectively journeyed that path himself.
Lily N. Franzen___
Ms. Franzen started her journey with the martial arts in 2003
at the age of 6 and achieved her youth black belt by the age of 12. Having her
training extend to numerous martial arts schools, Ms. Franzen holds teaching experience and professionalism found only in a
high quality martial arts school. Her role in TORQUE is primarily focused on
our Women’s Self Defense program and Tournament Training classes. Since the age
of 9, participating in martial arts tournaments was a large component of Ms.
Franzen’s life, but it wasn’t until Joining TORQUE that her passion could fully
ignite, turning her into the best Instructor for the Tournament Training classes. In these courses, Franzen brings a challenging, fun, and unique side of Martial Arts to her students
while encouraging growth of their showmanship and professionalism. Aside from her love for the arts, Ms. Franzen holds her obligation to inform all her students of the many ways
they can defend themselves against and avoid physical, verbal, and emotional
abuse close to her heart, and considers it priority.
